Third-grade reading scores
The 2010 CSAP reading scores are in for Jeffco third-graders and the results show that fewer third-graders are advanced and proficient at reading than last year. Here is how Jeffco compares to statewide results:
|Advanced and Proficient|
|Jeffco||76% (down four points from 2009)|
|Colorado||70% (down three points from 2009)|
“We are definitely disappointed with these results, because when I see what schools are doing and I watch what’s happening in the classroom, we are doing all the right things, according to research, to help our students become proficient readers,” said Jeffco Superintendent Cindy Stevenson.
“While we might be disappointed, we aren’t discouraged by these numbers because out of six thousand third -graders, more than four thousand of them are reading above grade level. We won’t be happy though until 100 percent of our students are reading at a proficient or advanced level,” she said.
The CSAP (Colorado Student Assessment Program) reading test was given to Jeffco third -graders in February. The results of the CSAP tests in grades 4 through 10 in reading, writing, science and math will be released by the state in July.
